Welcome to the website of Ashtanga Yoga Pur. Our project's mission is to teach and promote the many advantages of Ashtanga Yoga - especially in the Bonn region in Germany.

Ashtanga Yoga is a tradtional form of the ancient Indian physical and mental training. The practice includes several predefined series of exercises in which dynamic elements (vinyasa) alternate with static postures (asana). The design of the workout systematically challenges and trains the whole body. Not only does the method enhance the flexibility and strength of the complete muscular system and connective tissue, with its focus on movement it also improves the students' overall fitness, coordiniation and motor skills.

An important part of Ashtanga Yoga is the synchronisation of breath and movement by using a special breathing technique (ujjiayi), the activation of core muscles (bandha), and the concentration on a focal point (drishti). These elements turn the practice into more than just a simple - though artfully designed - fitness program: they transform the physical practice into an intense mental training, which subtly adresses different spiritual levels and supports positive stress coping patterns. Usually, it is not possible to avoid stress triggers entirely, but we can change our attitude towards those situations and gradually adjust our coping habits to be more beneficial to ourselves and others.

Ashtanga can teach and foster the mindful use of our own skills and energy, and help us to build trust in ourselves. In turn, a positive self-percepetion will encourage us to develop more kindness towards others. We will then be able to face private and professional challenges more relaxed and grounded.
